Character Information
Character Name: Aaron
Fandom: The Walking Dead
Character Journal:
dadenergy
Character History: A sweet wiki link
Canon Point: Episode 9.12, "Guardians"
Character Personality: A lot of really positive things can be said about Aaron. He's doggedly devoted to a cause once he's committed, he's compassionate beyond anything that resembles self-preservation, he's ardently devoted to and intimately believes in the passion of humanity as a whole, all the while feeling somewhat ostracized his entire life. More than anything, he's a deep believer in and promoter of the human condition, believing that just as humanity is capable of great selfishness and horror, they are capable of compassion and love. His own well-being never factors into his decisions, whether its to rush to the defense of his home or to join someone in what is most likely a fool's errand, protecting others rather than himself is his first priority.
Aaron's earnest nature and altruism have followed him through the onset of the apocalypse, leading him into the role as recruiter for the Alexandria Safe-Zone where he, along with his boyfriend Eric, would spend weeks away from the safety of Alexandria's walls in search of others to bring back and join their community, truly believing that people together were far stronger and capable of far more than people on their own. He feels most fulfilled when aiding others, and strives to find the good in everyone, even identifying how his mother had meant well through her attempts to make him more manly, and knowing the others in the Safe-Zone didn't outright hate him or Eric, even though some of the things they said were "hilariously offensive".
Initially, Aaron maintained a "glass is always half-full" mentality about others, welcoming them and working alongside them, Negan's near destruction of the Communities, his loss of Eric, Alexandria's betrayal at Michonne's friend's, the introduction of the Whisperers and the loss of Jesus coupled with the solo raising of his daughter, Gracie, have given him a more insular stance. He's less quick to trust and more likely to err on the side of caution when meeting new people.
While typically a pacifist who would rather avoid open conflict (even if someone punches him in the face in the middle of trying to plead his case), when those he loves are in danger or threatened, he doesn't hesitate to spring to action, even at the risk of great personal harm or death. His boyfriend, Eric, was the closest relationship he's ever had, originally bonding over mutual ostracism due to homophobia and the bigotry they both faced due to being openly gay, a sad state of affairs that followed both of them into the apocalypse. As such, even though they were surrounded in Alexandria by several people they both saved from being forced to survive and scavenge for food and water outside Alexandria's walls, Aaron tended to keep himself apart from the others, avoiding their parties and other gatherings and only attending when necessary. Even after the conflicts with Negan and becoming a member of the council, Aaron and his daughter Gracie tend to keep to themselves apart from the sleepovers Michonne organizes with Judith.
Eric Raleigh was the deepest and closest love he'd ever known, and he hasn't made any moves to move on from his death, instead funneling all his hope for the future they're rebuilding into Alexandria and his adopted daughter, Gracie. From his canon point, he is deeply focused on the protection of home and family and would do anything to assure their safety, even going to war if need be.
In essence, though, Aaron is an earnest, honest, eager, and somewhat easy-going man who is quick to offer a smile, even when someone points a gun in his face or knocks him out and ties him up. He can warm, inviting, welcoming in the right circumstances, and fully believes those around him can accomplish whatever is set before them if they attempt it together.
Powers and Abilities: Aaron is 100% human, and has the same strength and agility as would be expected of a man of his size who eats clean and takes part in regular strenuous activity. That being said, before the end of the world, he was a politician with a BS in Political Science turned non-profit international diplomat and negotiator turned recruiter for a community after the apocalypse. He knows his way around guns, has been trained in basic hand-to-hand combat, is comfortable wielding knives and machetes, and has been training for a few years to keep his amputated left forearm and hand from hindering his combat ability.
He's also a great judge of character and skilled at negotiation. Since the end of the world, he's learned to garden, frame houses, basic automotive mechanics, and also became an amateur photographer.
